Purple Shimmer Sunday: Jessica Venus Was Her Name

Happy Sunday everyone!

If you're a Canuck like me, I hope you are enjoying your long weekend and are able to get out tomorrow evening to see some Canada Day fireworks!  And if you live where I do, you are probably melting in to a puddle right now -- it is HOT out today.

It's Purple Shimmer Sunday again!  The week sure does fly by quickly, doesn't it?  Don't forget to check out The Polish Haven and Lavish Layerings to see what Kristy and Jenny have in store for today!

Today I want to share Jessica Venus Was Her Name with you guys.  VWHN is a really lovely smoky gray/dusty purple polish with a lovely pinky/purple hint of shimmer that only really comes out to play when the sun hits it.

Application on VWHN was fine.  The first coat went on a bit streaky but it really evened out beautifully by the second coat.  People with better application skills than me could probably get away with two coats with this polish.  I did three though just to be on the safe side.

I really like this polish!  It seems very work-appropriate for those who have to be concerned with that sort of thing (thankfully, I don't) and it really packs a beautiful punch in the sun.  Indoors, this polish mostly looks gray/dusty purple.

On to the pics!  Both of these pics were taken outdoors, no flash in the full mid-day sun for maximum shimmer showiness hehe.  VWHN (three coats):

Now I have this song stuck in my head...

VWHN can be purchased directly through Jessica Cosmetics' website here and probably by a million sellers on ebay lol.

As always, thanks for stopping by and have a wonderful day! <3

CrowsToes Maxxed Out

Evenin' folks!

I'm going to try to keep this (relatively) short and sweet tonight.  I finally wore CrowsToes Maxxed Out for the first time recently.  This is a polish I knew I would love but hadn't gotten around to wearing.  So I decided to slap Maxxed Out over the very lovely Orly Rock It from their Mineral FX collection from a few years ago.  I LOVED this combo.  I like matchy-combos, but I like mismatch-y combos even better!

Rock It is an awesome magenta glass fleck polish.  The color is so rich!  Maxxed Out is a super blingy glitter polish with various sizes of yellow-y gold, pale gold, and yellow hex glitters and gold bar glitters.  I have no complaints formula-wise for either of these polishes.  Rock It applied beautifully and was opaque in two coats.  Orly has skinny brushes, which I am a big fan of.  Maxxed Out was pretty smooth for a CrowsToes polish, though my habit is always to dab on glitterbombs like this anyway.  Take that as you will!

Here's the only half-decent pic I managed to take of this mani.  Yes, it was taken under the fridge light, so not terribly color-accurate but what can you do?  I've been pestering my DH to finally make good on that light box promise of his, so keep your fingers crossed for me haha.

Thanks for popping by and have a wonderful evening!

Purple Shimmer Sunday: Dior Shadow

Ahoy hoy everyone!

I hope you are all having a lovely Sunday.  And speaking of Sunday, I am so pleased to let you know that I am joining in with Jenny of Lavish Layerings fame and Kristy of The Polish Haven fame on their super fun "Purple Shimmer Sundays" blog post series.  As a fellow purple shimmer polish hoor, I am thrilled to take part...thanks ladies! <3

So with that in mind, I am sharing Dior Shadow with you guys today.  Man...this polish is an absolute stunner!  I purchased Shadow almost a year ago now (it was released as part of Dior's Les Violets Hypnotiques collection) and this is my first mani with it *flogs self*.  Honestly, I don't know why it has taken me so long to slap this beauty on my nails but I am so glad I did.

Shadow is a lovely red-toned plum color packed with loads of red/pink hidden shimmer.  This HIDDEN shimmer is no joke.  It really only comes out to play in full force when you stick your nails in the blaring sunlight...which is fine with me since I am used to doing that when I wear holographic polishes haha.  But I can see how that would put off some folks.  Under regular indirect day light or indoor light, this polish is pretty tame.

Shadow's application was good - it had a very nice pigmented formula that was opaque for me in two careful coats.  The only complaint I have with this polish isn't even with the polish itself but the brush.  Have you seen those Dior polish brushes???  Madness, I say!  They are short, wide, stubby brushes that drive me batty.  I am not a fan of wide brushes at all but it is even worse when the brush is short.  Ugh.  The only redeeming quality this brush has for me is that the tip of the brush is rounded off instead of squared so it makes it slightly less awkward to do a nice job at the bottom of your nails near your cuticle.  However, if you can deal with the ridiculous brush, this polish is well worth the frustration.  Overall I love this polish - just not the brush.

Anyhoodle, enough dissecting of the brush...on to the pics!  Full disclosure: these pics were all taken in direct sunlight, no flash.  I am telling you this right now so you don't have any illusions of how this polish actually looks 90% of the time lol.  Don't say I didn't warn you!

*dreamy sigh* Ain't she a beaut??

Shadow was a limited edition polish, so you won't be able to find this in stores anymore, but if you want to try your luck on "evil bay", you might be able to find it for exorbitant prices.  Sorry to do the whole LE thing to you guys but this polish was just too pretty not to blog.

As always, thanks for stopping by and reading my wall-of-text or at least scrolling to the pics haha.  Have a great day! <3

Elevation Polish Mount Cangyan and Max Factor Fantasy Fire

Hey everyone...happy Saturday!  I'm going to keep this short and sweet today because I am on vacation for the next week and am feeling very lazy haha.

Here's some pics of a mani I wore recently: Elevation Polish Mount Cangyan under Max Factor Fantasy Fire.  I loved it!  I'm only sorry that I didn't get any decent pics of Mount Cangyan on its own as it is a very beautiful purple shimmer.  Formula on both polishes was fine, not fussy at all.

Anyhoodle, hope you enjoy the pics!  One coat of Max Factor Fantasy Fire over two coats of Elevation Polish Mount Cangyan:
